Frequently Asked Questions:

Can my doctor text me?

Yes, your doctor can text you. It’s their responsibility to secure all the information they store and transmit with a HIPAA compliant software like Rhinogram. It’s also their responsibility to ask how you’d like to receive communications and record your preference. If you don’t want to be texted, simply tell the practice!

Why should I text with my doctor?

Texting is all about convenience for you and quickly getting you the care you need. Texting your doctor allows you to quickly schedule appointments, ask questions about your care, send and receive images and files all without having to wait on hold or login to a portal.  So, next time you need to get in contact with your doctor, text them first! You’ll be surprised how quick and easy it is.

Is text messaging secure?

Just like phone calls and regular email, text messaging isn’t encrypted. Rhinogram encrypts all the communication your physician sends and stores in a cloud based platform, but once the messages make it to your phone, they aren’t inherently secure. Techniques like encrypting your phone can help to secure information exchanged via text message.

How do I encrypt my cell phone?

Encrypting your phone is an added layer of protection you can implement in addition to your login credentials.

Encrypt your iPhone - Navigate to Settings and select Touch ID & Passcode. There you will be able to Turn on Touch ID and enroll up to 5 finger prints. Enabling a fingerprint login for your phone Passcode, will effectively encrypt your phone and anyone looking to gain access to your device will need to have a registered fingerprint.

Encrypt your Android - First you’ll need to make sure you’ve set a lock screen PIN, pattern or password. Then, navigate to your device’s Settings and select Lock Screen & Security. Under “Encryption.”Once here, you’ll have the ability to add a fingerprint for login if your device supports it, encrypt your SD card and make other security adjustments.

ORTHO IN THE AGE OF COVID

ORTHO IN THE AGE OF COVID

ORTHO IN THE AGE OF COVID BY DR. LAURA PULVER

We are beyond ready to get back to work and see everyone that we have missed so much! We hope this newsletter finds everyone healthy, happy and prepared to ease back into regular routines. After 2 months of closure, we are preparing to re-open.

While many things have changed, one thing has remained constant: our unyielding commitment to your safety and well-being.

We want to update you on our office, it's measured re-opening, and the steps we are taking to ensure we do everything possible to keep our patients and our team healthy.

We ask for your patience during this time. We had to cancel hundreds
of appointments, and we know that there is a strong desire to get your treatment back on track as soon as possible. We will reschedule patients on a first-canceled-first-rescheduled basis. This is fair, efficient, and will serve everyone with getting back on track.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Virtual Orthodontic Appointments for Our Current and Future Patients

Virtual Appointments for Current Patients

With the uncertainty surrounding when we will be able to safely see patients in office, we have implemented virtual appointments to monitor treatment progress. Fortunately, in most cases, technology allows us to continue with treatment as normal. We use advanced aligners and braces/wires that work routinely between your normally scheduled visits. And now, during this period of social distancing, we can finally fully leverage technology through digital appointments for many of your regularly scheduled visits. Our primary goal is to keep all patients progressing through treatment and maintain a semblance of normal.

If you have an appointment scheduled between now and April 5th, we are requesting that you complete your virtual appointment on or close to the date of your appointment. Drs. Ross or Laura Pulver will review the photos and make sure that everything is progressing as expected. If there is a need for further review, we will contact you via text.

We are excited to continue to serve our patients with incredible technology and continue progressing toward each patient’s future of a beautiful smile!

Virtual Consult for Future Patients

Even though it seems like the world is on pause, we are still here for you! We have made it easy to find out if you and your family are candidates for orthodontic treatment before even walking through our door. Our Virtual Consultation makes that possible. It’s simple, convenient and completely complimentary. Find out more here on how you can complete yours!

How to Handle Orthodontic Issues at Home

The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) has a robust blog and they just did a great blog post about how to handle orthodontic issues at home. Like most orthodontists around the nation, our office is currently postponing any non-emergent appointments due to COVID-19. This does not mean that we are not available however! We are going to start implementing VIRTUAL APPOINTMENTS who have braces, Invisalign, or need retainer checks. We have also very excited to announce that we have rolled out VIRTUAL CONSULTS as well for new patients! Stay tuned to our next blog post to learn more!

The great thing about orthodontics is that we can figure out how to solve most issues over the phone or through our virtual appointments. Call us at (805) 238-2632 or email at hello@northcoortho.com. In the mean time check out the blog by the AAO and this guide they made!

Update from NCO during COVID-19 Closure

We hope that you and your families are happy and healthy and that you are finding joy in the time together.

Given the gravity of this health care crisis and national emergency, the California Dental Association implores dental practices to suspend all dental care with the exception of emergency cases that present as life-threatening. The purpose of this recommendation is consistent with the statewide shelter-in-place order — to minimize the risks of virus exposure to patients and the dental team and to preserve critical health care workers’ personal protective equipment (PPE) supply, which is currently in extremely short supply.

How It All Began

Ross and I have a lot of patients who are curious to know how we first met and decided to work together. Our “love story” is pretty serendipitous because we lived almost 1,200 miles apart at the time!

Ross is from California and moved to Texas in 2011 for his orthodontic residency program at Baylor Texas A&M College of Dentistry. I was living in Ann Arbor and was midway through my dental school training at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry.

The summer before my third year of dental school, my roommate and I went to Dallas to visit her parents and attend the Michigan vs. Alabama football game at Cowboys Stadium to open the 2012 season. I met Ross by chance on a Tuesday night at a small Dallas restaurant. He overheard my friend and I talking about dentistry, and we struck up a conversation that changed the rest of our lives! He was kind enough to invite me to visit his school since I was getting ready to apply to orthodontic residency programs in the fall. Things blossomed from there, and we started dating! Six years later, we are fortunate enough to be doing what we love together!!  Even though the Wolverines lost that weekend, I won big time meeting the love of my life.

We invite you to visit our office and hear the full story first-hand!

Aloha!!
